Milo supports the 'stache

Milo wants to be the next Yankee slugger. (If you don't know what this is about, see Giambi).

A true American

Milo is learning to grab. Over the last week or two, it seemed like he was getting the idea that he could move his hands to come in contact with the things his eyes could see. This weekend, he made big strides. He's still not that good at it; if he misses, he seems very confused and it takes a while before he's sure he doesn't really have it.

Here is evidence of two successful attempts. With Ms. Giraffe, who seems to be becoming a favorite:
And with one of his many elephants (of the subclass with stripy feet):

Happy 4th of July!

It turns out our town has a rockin' 4th of July parade, including steel drums, bagpipes, and djembes. Here are Milo and his mother (under protest) grooving to one of the bands (note the Yankees home onesie; he also has one for away games):

Ariba! Milo goes to daycare

This week, Milo began going to daycare, and his mother started going back to work. A very exciting time for all of us.

This was Milo's outfit for his first day:

Milo seems to like daycare fine. When we drop him off, he always seems to be looking around interestedly, and he looks content when we pick him up, too. Sometimes he's playing peek-a-boo with Ms. Paula.

The whole experience is probably much more trying for his parents. Besides his apparent unconcern with being abandoned with strangers all day, there's the whole process of getting him to and from daycare. It seems to add an hour onto the commute, despite only being a 10-15 minute walk from his mother's place of work.

The plan is that I drop him off in the morning and his mother picks him up. It turns out that in order for this to happen successfully, I have to make a little list of everything I have to bring with me and do when I'm there. It begins "Stroller (with baby)" and ends with a reminder to take off the shoe covers I have to don to enter the Bunny room.

The upside of all this for me is that daycare is near Eastern Market (one of those large halls with lots of different food purveyors), so I've been stopping on my way to work for sandwich meat.

Grandmother/ growth blogging

Here's a picture of Milo with his father's mother from just a few days after birth:

Here's a picture of Milo with his mother's mother from when he was not quite 12 weeks old:

As you can see, the main difference is that he's gone prematurely bald.
